Vikings SM BF Paranaque - Be Like a Viking!

Ever since the moment we saw the Vikings logo in SM BF my wife and I has been hyped to maximum. The last time we ate at a Vikings Restaurant has been almost over a year now and we were able to avail of the birthday promo. Lo and behold, Vikings SM BF announced their planned opening discount promos and we had our smiles up to our ears!
For the first three days of opening Vikings SM BF will give 50% discount to customers who will dine with viking costumes. Just one part was also enough to avail this Be Like a Viking promo. All the efforts stalking their fan-page waiting for the announcement of their opening was rewarded with a nice reservation for a Saturday night feast.

Vikings SM BF Paranaque
Saturday came and we were very excited to see the new Vikings branch and also to eat good and delicious food. The theme and atmosphere was very comfortable. The theme according to them is related to nature. After taking a look around you will very much say that yup!, it is very much nature centric. There's a blend of brown and green partnered with their very cool chandeliers plus the decorations are pretty. The enclosed rooms is like an aquarium and there are plants decorating the place. Even the comfort room is cozy and decorated with greens and lamps. They have also designated their veranda as a smoking area. This area is situated outside just beyond the glass door beside the refreshment area.

After a quick minute rest but before we started our ravenous attack on the buffet we wanted to take pictures of all the food. Unfortunately there were customers earlier than us and we had to settle for not so perfect pictures of the food setup.

The menu for Vikings SM BF is mostly similar to that of Vikings MOA. Since the chefs should be different the taste would be a bit different also. This little differences though made a big impact to me. There are dishes that are a staple of our every buffet visit and I think we hit the jackpot here when almost 80% of them are up to par with food we tasted in Sofitel (Which we will be revisiting on February 2015 *evil grin*).

Sushi boat
Sashimi

For our initial trip to the line we took some of our staple favorites Maki, Sushi, Sashimi, Oyster, Crab and Pizza. The Sashimi is fresh as always the taste of sweet raw sliced seafood will greet you in every bite. After that though the sushi selection line wasn't able to impress any further. The rice was too sticky and would cling to palate, it was so hard to gulp down without drinks because it was clinging to the top of my mouth. We all do know that we don't fill ourselves with drinks when eating at buffets. The oyster was good but it seems some of it's cracked shell has been mixed with the meat. The pizza as usual is top notch we had requested for a personal all cheese flavor. The crabs was a sad afterthought though since it was hardly refilled that night.

Grilling choices

Our next trip had us hunting for the carving and meat sections while checking out the dishes we don't usually see. We had lambs, turkey, beef, pork, squid and some tempura. The tempura is very nice since it was fresh from the deep fry and the batter was not the usual taste. The carving selections are sumptuous as usual. The squid I had requested to be grilled was nice but it also tasted like fish. Looks like it got mixed with the grilling fishes that it  has caught the taste. I was also able to taste their Black Pancit which seems like pancit with squid ink sauce.

There were a lot of drink choices. My favorite must try pick would be probably the strawberry mango and the apple cinnamon. There is the usual red ice tea, iced milo shake, lemonades and cold draft beer. There is also wine but I did not ask if it is an add-on. After getting my drinks the remainder of my trips were mostly for shrimps and other non fried foods.

Ending our meal we got in line in their small but neat dessert corner. This is probably the best part we enjoyed. None of the dessert selection failed to satisfy our taste buds. My favorite would be the tasty crepe, cheesecake and the red velvet cake. The crepe's topping selection was small but the batter was very different to the usual bland batter we had tried. Most of the cakes are moist and the cheesecake is a two thumbs up. Fruits were only two to three kinds and their candy buffet is mostly gummy candy and I think too gummy that I got tired chewing after two pieces. There were also some sticky rice selections like biko and puto bumbong.

Budget Eater Rating:
5 out of 5 if you eat during promos! (birthday, big group, vouchers)
4 out of 5 if you eat a regular rate. The food is good it warrants this.

Overall, our dinner at Vikings SM BF Paranaque is a great choice. The food is good, the ambience is good and the price is cheaper than Vikings SM MOA. Add in a FIFTY percent discount per head then it is not a great choice anymore but the BEST choice for that night.
